5 Caring Hearts LLC secures the quality of the services it offers by equipping its professionals with the right and up-to-date knowledge and skills. Our training sessions are geared towards establishing the standards for applicants and employees.
The agency complies with the precepts indicated in the Health Care Facilities Act, thus requiring its employees to demonstrate competency in particular fields. It’s the agency’s responsibility to prepare its employees and ensure they exhibit the required standard of care prior to deployment.

The Procedure

1. Applicants and employees should show expertise in the following areas prior to the provision of services to the clients and should continue to practice them:

  • Confidentiality
  • Consumer Control & Independent Living Philosophy
  • Basic Infection Control
  • Instrumental Activities of Daily Living
  • Universal Precautions
  • Recognizing Consumer Changes
  • Emergency Protocols
  • Recognizing Signs of Violence and Abuse
  • Documentation
  • Dealing with Difficult Actions

2. In providing personal care assistance to clients, employees should demonstrate the competencies in the following areas:

  • Bathing, shaving, grooming, and dressing
  • Hair, skin, and oral care
  • Ambulation and transition assistance
  • Toileting
  • Meal planning, preparation, and feeding
  • Assistance with self-administered drugs

3. Employees should present one of the following as proof of their competence:

  • Valid PA license as a nurse
  • Valid PA certification as a nurse aide
  • Completed Training Form
  • Experience from other home care agency
  • A home health aide program under 42 C.F.R. 484.36
  • A Medicaid waiver or publicly funded home and the community-based program provided by this agency
  • A program certified by the PA Department of Health
  • Completion of this agency’s competency examination

4. An employee’s competency is measured annually, fairly, and accurately through the following procedures:

  • Annual competency and performance reviews
  • Client Feedback
  • Direct Observation
  • Training & Testing

5. Necessary documents provided by employees should include the following:

  • Dates
  • Name of the training program
  • Training Content
  • Evidence of successful completion

6. All documentation is subject to validation by a licensing agency or training facility. The original copy is preferred.
7. Documents of regular employees are to be treated with confidentiality under the care of the agency’s staff.
8. After training sessions, employees can obtain the original copy of their certificates, and, at the employee’s request, a copy may be kept in the agency’s registry.
